Ironworks Plaza

Mishawaka, IN
Featured, Parks & Trails, Public Spaces & Streetscapes

A former Superfund site along the St. Joseph River, the Ironworks District is an eight-block extension of the Mishawaka Downtown. Since 2015, Context has worked closely with the Mayor and development partners to lead site design efforts.

Highlights of the plaza include a pedestrian-oriented event street that is closed down for events and festival space. The Ball Band Biergarten – a quaint European-inspired outdoor space that overlooks the river. The central core of the plaza is a community and café building with a multi-seasonal plaza and ribbon garden walk that converts to an ice-skating path.

Context Design Role: Master Planning, Lead Site Designer, and Construction Documents
